Russian River Campgrounds
There are a number of campgrounds in the area of the Russian River that offer easy access to the great fishing and outdoor activities found here. Of these the most popular is the USFS campground at the confluence of the Russian and Kenai Rivers.

Russian River Salmon Fishing
This is where this little river really gets it's fame. The salmon fishing on the Russian River in Alaska is second to none when compared to any other river that can be accessed from the limited road system in Alaska. Sockeye salmon return to the Russian in June and continue well into August.
Russian River Bear Viewing
Seems like wherever you find salmon in Alaska you also find the bears. The Russian is no exception to this and bears are becoming an everyday occurrence along the banks of this beautiful wilderness stream. Most of the bears are brown bears although some black bears are also seen in the campgrounds and along the rivers and streams. There are no fences between you and the bears and they are a truly wild creature that must be given plenty of respect. If and when you come into contact with one of these bruins, always give way to the bear and never do anything to antagonize them in any way. Read all the sighs and head any warnings, pick up one of the “Be Bear Aware” brochures that are available from the state tourism department or from fish and game.
Cooper Landing Alaska
The nearest town to the river is the fishing and river adventure capitol of Cooper Landing. All the services you need are readily available from groceries to gasoline. There is a laundromat, a coffee shop and a very fancy lodge to serve your every need. Restaurants and picnic supplies are also available.
